Orchestra
There’s something a little magical about watching a child pick up an instrument and discover that they can make something beautiful happen. Orchestra teaches kids much more than how to read music or play the right notes. It teaches patience, focus, discipline, and the wonderfully humbling lesson that sometimes you have to practice something a lot before it sounds anything like the version in your head!
Orchestra is also the ultimate team sport without the sweaty uniforms. Every musician has a part, and every part matters. Students learn to listen—not just to themselves, but to the people around them. They learn cooperation, responsibility, confidence, and how individual effort can become something much bigger when everyone works together. And yes, there is nothing quite like the pride of surviving a challenging piece and realizing, “Wait...we actually did that!”
The benefits follow students far beyond the rehearsal room. Making music strengthens concentration, creativity, problem-solving, and perseverance while giving kids a positive community where they can belong and grow. They learn that mistakes aren't failures—they're part of learning, and sometimes the squeaky note is simply evidence that you're getting better.
Most importantly, orchestra gives young people a place to express themselves, make friendships, build confidence, and create something that cannot exist without them. We may send our kids to orchestra to learn music, but along the way, they learn how to listen, collaborate, persevere, and find their own voice—and that's a pretty wonderful encore.
String Embrace
Students build on previous orchestral experience through the study and performance of high-quality orchestra literature.
Rehearsals focus on the strengthening of critical listening skills, musicianship, string techniques, ensemble skills, and aesthetic awareness in the context of relevant history and cultures.
